University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Pe01-035. Wang Weiqin (王維勤), a former official who killed two families, was executed on 31 October 1904 (Source: Wikipedia). This photograph was taken at the execution ground at Caishikou (菜市口), Peking (Beijing). Lingchi ('Death by ten thousand cuts') was a most feared punishment, carried out while the miscreant was still alive, for treason and serious crimes against the family. See Pe01-034 and Pe01-038.
