University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ro-n1086. This is one of four identical passenger steamers built in the U.K. in 1934 for the China Merchants Steam Navigation Co., using a loan from the British Boxer Indemnity Fund - HAI YUAN 海元, HAI CHEN 海貞, HAI LI 海利 , and HAI HENG 海亨. The ships were withdrawn from service in 1937 and sold to Jardines in 1938.
