University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ro-n1194. Qianmen Street was (and still is) one of the city’s main shopping streets. In the background is Zhengyangmen (Qianmen 前门), a gate situated on the central north–south axis, south of Tiananmen Square, and formerly named Lizhengmen (丽正门), which guarded the southern entry into the Inner City.
