University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ep01-743. This photograph was probably taken from a military plane during 1927 Shanghai Defence Force deployment. On the left is the Wing On (Yong'an) Department Store, Nanking Road. On the right is Sincere Company Limited department store. The spire on right is the Sun Sun department store. Shanghai’s Municipal Town Hall (demolished in 1929) is behind Wing On. The Foreign Y.M.C.A. is under construction.
