Shops and stalls in Upper Lascar Row (摩羅上街), known as Cat Street, Hong Kong

Notes

University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: FH01-149. Upper Lascar Row (摩羅上街), Sheung Wan, Hong Kong, was nicknamed Cat Street because the wares on offer included smuggled/stolen goods, known as ‘rat goods’ (老鼠貨); hence the buyers were ‘cats’. Today, shops and stalls in the street sell antiques and curios. One of the signs on the left advertises a private letter service (友記信局).
