University of Bristol – Historical Photographs of China reference number: HR01-045. This photograph was probably taken from Tung Wan Beach, looking towards Cheung Chau Island. William Hoy is standing on the far left, with a camera. William Hoy, from Sunderland, sailed for Hong Kong in June 1909. He was a draughtsman at Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Company. Hoy returned to the UK in September/October 1914 via Canada, presumably to join up. See also HR01-037, HR01-038, HR01-039 for the same group of friends on an outing.
