University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: RA-m019. A scan of a magic lantern slide. Royal Asiatic Society Library reference: Glass Slide.00/(019). The Bubbling Well apparently dates to the third century AD, the bubbling caused by the eruption of carbonic acid gas. Bubbling Well Road (now Nanjing Xi Lu) was named after this well. See Jo02-31.
