University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ro-s049. Handwritten captions and photographer's stamp on back of photograph. Advert on side of building: KODAKS / MACTAVISH'S. MacTavish & Lehmann had a shop at No 1 The Bund, Shanghai - and later in the Hongkew Medical Hall, by the junction of Broadway (Daming Lu) and Soochow Road North (Suzhou Bei Lu). Dispensing chemist (pharmacy), perfumery and importer of surgical instruments, MacTavishes were also suppliers of cameras, glass plates (negatives), film, paper, and other photographic accessories, as well as post cards and photographs. The company ran a dark room at the Hongkew Medical Hall for the use of amateur photographers. Broadway Mansions was later built over the site of the Hongkew Medical Hall. See EV-s09 and Ro-n0463.
