Notes
University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: GA01-041. Photograph by Felice Beato. This photograph shows a similar scene of dead Chinese soldiers as depicted in GA01-039, but taken from a different angle, in the south west corner of the inner North Taku Fort. Comparing these two photographs, slight changes can be noticed in the arrangement of the corpses and in the placement of objects. For instance, one of the Chinese soldiers in the centre of the picture, laying on the wooden platform, is facing downwards, whilst in GA01-039 he is facing upwards. See "Of Battle and Beauty - Felice Beato's Photographs of China" by David Harris (Santa Barbara Museum of Art, 1999) - Catalogue 16. See RH-s03.
