Atchison, George Collection
This is a set of thirteen photographs from a scrap album, which also includes drawings, watercolours, maps, and prints, relating to Captain George Turnour Horton Atchison, who died at Tientsin on 21 July 1861, aged 28. Atchison was in China serving with the 67th (South Hampshire) Regiment of Foot and was Deputy Assistant Quarter-Master General to the troops in north China. He was present at the capture of the Taku Forts and the North China Campaign of 1860 (the culmination of the Second Opium War). Among the photographs in the album are a few by Felice Beato, including a four-part panorama. The photographs in the George Atchison Collection complement those in the Royal Hampshire Regiment Collection. Atchison album HPC ref: GA01.
