Trobridge, George Collection
Frederick George Trobridge DSO (1887-1955), known usually as George, and also as ‘Bunny’, was a mining engineer and metallurgist. He was born in Birmingham, England, on 6 February 1887, the eldest child of Caroline and Arthur Trobridge, who worked in the chemical industry. During the First World War, George Trobridge was mentioned in despatches three times and became a major, receiving a Distinguished Service Order award in the 1918 New Years Honours List. He was in Hong Kong by November 1919 and was Managing Director of the China Mining and Metal Company Ltd., Hong Kong. George Trobridge married Mary Ada Llewelyn (1898-1977) in Tianjin on 24 December 1921. The couple had two children: a son, David Arthur George Trobridge (1923-1944), who was born in Hong Kong, and a daughter, Patricia Mary Trobridge (1925-2002), who was born in Shanghai. The family left China while Patricia Mary Trobridge was still an 'infant in arms', c.1925. George Trobridge died in Dublin, Ireland, on 30 May 1955.
