Dudeney, Leo Collection
A collection of photographs from an album compiled by the English journalist Leonard Dudeney (1875-1956), and magic lantern slides, mostly of Shanghai. Leo Dudeney was Assistant Editor (and briefly, Acting Editor) of the North-China Herald and North-China Daily News, from 1902 to 1907. Many photographs in the collection were probably taken by Leo Dudeney; some of them were colour tinted by his wife, Ellen (Nellie) Dudeney, née Higginson. The Dudeneys lived in a flat at 17A The Bund, Shanghai. After returning to England, Leo Dudeney played a part in the fledgling Labour movement and worked for the Leicester Pioneer, Daily Express and Daily Sketch until he retired from Fleet Street in 1943. 107 images.
