University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: Ep01-001. The Shanghai Defence Force, the largest peacetime despatch of British troops in the Inter-war period, was billeted across the city. Aircraft flew from behind the recreation ground clubhouses, and were kept in three large mat-shed hangars on the race course. See Ep01-095 and GJ01-106.
