Street sign: NORTH S[OOCH]OW ROAD. “The British Dispensary” (MacTavish & Lehmann Chemists) was in a building known as the Hongkew Medical Hall. This was not far from the Japanese Consulate, see Virtual Shanghai image ID 34730. MacTavishes were also suppliers of cameras, glass plates (negatives), film, paper, and other photographic accessories, as well as post cards and photographs. The company ran a dark room at the Hongkew Medical Hall for the use of amateur photographers. Broadway Mansions was later built over the site of the Hongkew Medical Hall. See EV-s09 and Ro-s049.
