Above the ship's stern is the Russell Building. This large black steamship is flying the P&O houseflag. It is either the PENINSULAR of 1888 or the ORIENTAL of 1889. At 5000 tons gross, these were the largest ships visiting Shanghai in the early 1890s. Visits in the period 1890-91 were ORIENTAL (January 1890), PENINSULAR (February 1890), ORIENTAL (August 1890), ORIENTAL (March 1891), PENINSULAR (August 1891) and PENINSULAR (December 1891).
