University of Bristol - Historical Photographs of China reference number: DH-s115. This is a detail from a panoramic view of the Huangpu River and Bund, Shanghai. The prominent ensign indentifies the ship in DH-s115 as a vessel of the Royal Navy. The gun-vessel HMS LINNET (5 guns, 85 men, Commander V.A. Tisdall) was based in Shanghai in the second part of 1890 and the first part of 1891. It was moored at Shanghai for a number of days until 8 March 1891 and again was the only Royal Navy ship in Shanghai from 12 March 1891 until 21 March 1891.
