Ayre, Leslie Collection
Paymaster Captain Leslie Charles Edward Ayre CBE (1886-1979) was a career officer in the Royal Navy. From 28 November 1928 to February 1931, Ayre was Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief, China Station. Sone of a clergyman, Ayre was born in Barnstable, Devon on 30 May 1886, and died on 29 January 1979 in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
The album includes photographs of the state funeral of Sun Yat-sen on 31 May 1929, the rendition of the British Leased Territory of Weihaiwai on 1 October 1930, scenes along the Yangzi river, military and diplomatic groups, portraits of country people, and tourist photographs of Beijing, HPC ref: Ay01.
