Hulme, Oliver Collection

Born in Manchester, England in 1882, Oliver Heywood Hulme was briefly employed by the Chinese Maritime Customs Service (CMCS) from 1905 to 1906, before moving to the Chinese Post Office (which the CMCS ran until 1911). Hulme served in post offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Taiyuan, Nanjing, Anqing and Wuhan before being transferred back to Beijing and appointed secretary of the Chinese Post Office’s audit department. In 1918, at Wuhu, he married American Mary Elizabeth Rust, sister of a missionary. By way of warning: images of executions in this collection are graphic and potentially distressing. Four albums and some loose prints. HPC refs: OH01, OH02, OH03, OH04, and OH-s.
